If you have read my blogs, you know that I value both style and substance. So, I know there is nothing better than a sun-kissed stroll with your little one, especially when you are pushing a beautiful, high-quality stroller that makes you feel like you have got it all together.
But summer heat brings its own set of challenges for babies, who cannot tell us when they are uncomfortable or overheated. That’s why being extra cautious during summer days is a must!
If you need some tips, I have shared some insights on how I keep my baby cool in the stroller, and all without sacrificing style or peace of mind.
Start With The Right Stroller
The first thing you need to do is invest in a stroller that is designed for hot weather.
My favorites, Valco Baby strollers, feature breathable SPF50+ canopies, mesh ventilation windows, and generous extendable hoods. These are all features crucial to your baby's safety.
Moreover, you need to be careful with the color choice. Namely, light-colored strollers are more than just trendy. They reflect sunlight rather than absorb it, keeping the baby cool in the heat.
Also, bigger, adjustable canopies or an attachable stroller umbrella offer extra protection from the sun’s rays, while mesh panels encourage airflow without compromising on aesthetics.
Dress for The Weather
The right stroller is not enough for summer heat. You also have to be careful with your clothing choices.
Choose lightweight, loose-fitting outfits in soft cotton or bamboo for your baby, and do not forget a wide-brimmed hat for outdoor adventures. Skip thick fabrics and dark colors, and stick to light, airy neutrals and pastels, since they look adorable and help keep your little one cool.
Also, keep in mind that overdressing is a no-go, as too many layers can cause heat rashes or even heat exhaustion.
Prioritize Hydration
Babies cannot regulate their body temperature as easily as we do, so hydration is crucial.
You should offer breast milk or formula more often on hot days, and for older babies, you should keep a bottle of water or diluted juice within reach.
Cooling Tricks On-the-Go
Here is one of the best ways to keep the baby cool in the stroller! I like to freeze water bottles, wrap them in a towel, and tuck them on the sides of the stroller, of course, well out of baby’s reach, for a gentle cooling effect.
However, placing cooler packs under the stroller cushion or giving your baby a quick wipe with a cool, damp cloth can refresh your baby’s skin without causing chills. That is also something you can use on the go!
Safety First
One thing many moms forget is to check metal parts, buckles, and harnesses before strapping the baby in, because metal heats up quickly in the sun.
And always, always peek in on your baby every 10 to 15 minutes. If your little one seems flushed, sweaty, or extra fussy, head for the shade and cool off immediately.
Plan Smart, Play Smart
As you can see, with a little planning and the right gear, you effortlessly keep your baby cool in the stroller. However, remember that heat can be quite dangerous, so it is not recommended to stay out long, especially during midday. Summer days call for more time outside, but opt for morning or evening strolls to avoid peak heat and keep your baby safe.
