When it comes to strollers, I’ve always been pretty picky. Let’s face it, they’re not cheap, so I have very high expectations. Over the years, after four kids and counting, I’ve tried a bunch of different brands, and the one that has always checked all the boxes is Valco Baby. You just can’t beat the quality and thoughtfulness that goes into their strollers. So when I heard Valco Baby recently updated its Slim Twin stroller, I knew I had to get my hands on it. Because my kiddos are fairly spread out in age, it can be a challenge finding a stroller that fits our needs. After using the new Slim Twin S2, I’m ready to give my full, honest review, and, spoiler alert, I absolutely love it! If you’re looking for a full-sized double stroller that’s compact enough to fit where you want but roomy enough to bring everything you need, the Slim Twin S2 is the one for you!
Adjustability
When it comes to meeting our family’s needs, one of the most important features for any stroller is adjustability. It needs to work with where we’re at now but also offer room to grow. The Slim Twin S2 doesn’t disappoint! To start, I love the optional bassinet (coming soon) for evening strolls or when I want my littlest one to stretch out. It’s a super nice and ultra luxe addition! You can also individually recline each seat so one kiddo can nap peacefully while the other stays engaged with the world around them. And it’s not a partial recline; you can put those babies down to near flat so they stay comfy and cozy. The footrests also move up and down with a cocoon-style support that keeps younger babies secure. Of course, sun protection is a non-negotiable, since young skin is super delicate and sensitive. The Slim Twin S2 features two extendable canopies with UPF 50+ and convenient peekaboo windows, so you can keep an eye on what your kiddos are doing at all times. There’s also a ventilated seat back on each seat, which is such a relief on hot days. It’s true customization for kids from newborn to around 45lbs, so you know this stroller will last!
Safety
This point should have probably been the first on the list, but I was just so excited about all of the adjustable features I wanted to tell you about those first. But safety is every parent’s main concern. I want to know that when I put my kids in their stroller, they’re safe and secure. The Slim Twin S2 goes above and beyond to put my mind at ease. Instead of a simple lap or shoulder belt, both seats have an upgraded 5-point harness with padded shoulder straps that are easy to adjust, keeping little ones in place and comfortable. It also includes two removable belly bars (which is a huge bonus I haven’t seen on other compact strollers). Another of the Slim Twin S2’s new upgrades is the locking mechanism, which is easier to use with one-foot step engagement. Once locked, you can trust your stroller will stay where you put it, which was a huge requirement for me.
Compact and Lightweight
Did I tell you that I’ve gone through A LOT of strollers over the years, because I have! After my second daughter was born, I knew I had to upgrade to a double stroller. Let me tell you, it was a nightmare. First, the one I chose was so wide it couldn’t fit anywhere. I hated going shopping because I would knock down every piece of clothing in the aisle. Compatibility
As a mom, I’ve learned a lot over the years when it comes to my kids’ gear, and one thing my stroller must be is compatible. Compatible with what, you may ask. The car seat, of course! Look, I’m a woman who loves options; some days I want to take my baby out of his car seat and let him ride in the stroller, but when he’s sleeping, no force could make me interrupt his nap to unbuckle him, lift him up, and rebuckle him into a different seat. Of course, Valco Baby thought of that when designing the Slim Twin S2. By simply snapping in the car seat adapter, your double stroller becomes car seat compatible. That’s right, you have the option to snap your baby’s infant car seat right onto the Slim Twin S2 for unmatched flexibility! I guess this feature could have also gone under adaptability since it lets you customize your stroller for infants and older kids, but it’s such a good one I thought it deserved its own section.
Smooth Ride
One thing I’ve noticed about Valco Baby is they don’t cut corners. Parents are going to be interested in features that make their strollers adaptable, safe, and convenient, but what about the components that slip under the radar? I’m referring, of course, to wheels. You may have never even thought about the type of wheels your stroller has, but just like your car’s tires, they make all the difference in the smoothness of the ride. Where others may just slap on a pair that rolls, the Slim Twin S2 boasts top-quality Infinity wheels, now with built-in suspension for good measure. And when I say we will never go back to anything else, I mean it. Even my husband, who’s an avid car guy, made a comment about how nicely the stroller moves. It seems to glide over pretty much any surface so my kids aren’t bouncing around. It’s a lifesaver when they fall asleep and makes this stroller feel so luxurious. Even the little touches, like the vegan leather handlebar, make it feel like a stroller that costs twice as much.
Storage
Do your kids come with a lot of stuff? Because mine sure do. Another top concern when choosing a stroller was having enough storage. Not only do I need to fit a diaper bag and snacks, but I want there to be enough room for shopping bags, my older kids’ backpacks, or anything else I may need. The Slim Twin S2 has a huge storage basket with plenty of room for everything we bring along. It came in very handy on our last flight since it freed up our hands and arms by holding more than one carry-on. If you need to bring it, the Slim Twin S2 can hold it with room to spare!
